You must add additional money to this figure because otherwise you would not be able to deal with taxes or spend money on more than staying alive (new clothes, a nice night out for a change!)įor me, minimum wage is $15,000/year. If you are shy about a number, at the very least give yourself what is minimum wage for your area. Multiply that by 12 to get how much you “cost” in a year.įor me personally, I have shell out about $2.5K a month so I have to scrounge up $30,000 a year, and that’s buying nothing extra, going nowhere but work and straight home. Consider things like house note/rent, insurance and other bills (and add in a food bill). Sit down and add up all the expenses that you have to pay each month. Here’s a trick ripped straight out of the the Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: Pricing & Ethical Guidelines book. Howdy Kurohime! I do not know a lot about you but I do see your art reblog gallery and your other stuff, so I thought I’d put this together for you: Hopefully they help a bit! ref commission commissions save pandasagoma There’s much more I can talk about, but these are the immediate things that come to mind when I think about my own commissions. ![]() Your commission work is a business for yourself. Above all, be polite, professional, and respectful. If they are being persistent, then block them, ignore them, or if it escalates that much, report them. If someone approaches you and wants you to draw something you aren’t comfortable drawing, then politely decline them. Do not feel obligated to take on a commission that makes you uncomfortable. You can check out my commissions page for an idea of where to start. This can include things you are not willing to draw (such as NSFW material, or humans, or whatever), the amount of WIPs you will give out before further changes cost more, how long people can expect you to take on a particular piece, etc. Set-up an easy to follow Terms and Conditions page.Do not propagate the idea that artists should be cheap. Your time is valuable, never forget that. You should be making at the absolute bare minimum the minimum wage value in your area. Do not, I repeat, do NOT undersell yourself. Decide on a way for people to contact you. That’s awesome! Here’s some tips to help you get started. I hope this doesn’t come across as mean! i just wanted to let you know how artists feel about reposting their art.So, you’ve decided that you would like to offer your art (or other) services for commission. if you can’t do either, then the most respectful thing you can do for the artist of that piece is not repost it at all. Just please don’t repost art without permission and credit to the artist. Reposting work that you can’t credit, however, does nothing to aid the original artist, if anything it will stress them out because most artists actually hunt the web for their reposted pieces to have them taken down because scattered uncredited art pieces makes it difficult to track the og artist and makes their art susceptible to theft. instead of reposting art from unknown artists, the cool thing about tumblr is you can reblog amazing art straight from artists on tumblr which supports them and spreads their work so that their fan base increases and their work gets more attention which would increase their revenue if they happen to make any from their art. Speaking as an artist myself, this is extremely stressful for artists. if you have the photo saved in your phone, but don’t know who the artist is, please just don’t post it at all. I just wanted to drop in and let you know that as a general rule you really should not repost art if you can’t get permission from the original artist. ![]()
